Sun and Moon working with Float New Media Design. 15th November 2008

Louis and Dylan have been creating a series of illustrations for a new website being developed by Float New Media Design.

That's all we can say for now, more news and artwork on this after the site's launch early next year!

Upcoming graphic novel. 16th October 2008

Dylan has begun working on a graphic novel entitled "A Rat's Tale" based on a modern version of the Pied Piper of Hamelin story. The novel is being comissioned by the Gloucester based charity, Fresh Air Foundations, which adresses social issues through the arts.The novel will be completed in time for the Bristol comic expo in May 2009.

Wonky pitch success! 1st October 2008

Last month Louis and Dylan created a short animated pitch for the COI as part of the get out, stay out fire safety campaign for Wonky Films. It was pitched alongside two other proposals and in the end, Wonky's film won the job! Dylan has now been building the assets in Flash for the 30 second T.V ad ready to be animated my animators Joe Wood and Dave Conolley.

Louis works on animation for Aardman.10th September 2008.

Louis has begun working for Aardman animations to create Flash animation for a short film. The film will be finished in time to be shown at this year's MIPCOM international film and programme market in October.

Continuing with the Funginears. 8th September 2008

Dylan has been adding yet more assets to the upcoming Funginears first episode from Dream Berry studios. See our animaiton page to see what he's done this time. Mark is also still over in San Francisco putting finishing touches to the film alongside motion graphics artist, Brandon Hirzel.

Fire Safety Pitch for COI. 5th September 2008

Louis and Dylan have spent two days Flash animating at Wonky films studios on a pitch for a fire safety T.V. public service announcment for the Central Office of Information.

Dylan drawing live. 6th August 2008

Tuesday 12th August at Mr Wolf's bar Bristol.

Here's a quick note to let you know that Dylan will be making an appearance at this month's Weapon of Choice event at Mr Wolfs bar in Bristol. The event runs every month and hosts live painting from Bristol's finest Graffiti and Urban artists.

This month is a comic art special and Dylan has been invited to draw across a huge (7ft tall) wall alongside the talented Bristol based comic artist Lorenzo.

Imagine FX article. 1st June 2008

Things are rolling on for us here and the Funginears, Mark has just left to do a stint of work on the first Funginears short film with the team in San Francisco while Dylan has been working on snazzy new character designs from here in Bristol.

There is an article on Sun and Moon and the Funginears project in this month's Imagine FX magazine which we're all really pleased with.

Sun and Moon in Bali.15th March 2008

Dylan and Mark have been carrying on their work on the Funginears abroad again, this time in Bali.

We found the incredible wood carvings and whole visual style of Balinese architecture and art to be a big influence on the work we did there. Mark has built some fantastic CG environments and both of us have been creating an initial Funginears episode using puppets comined with 2d characters animated in After Effects.

While all this has been going on Louis has been working on a project for Aardman animations and Ryan has gone to Madrid to work on prosthetic makeup effects for a television film.

We have been working in a temporary studio at a school called Champuhan College. Alongside working on artwork, we have both had a wonderful time passing on various digital art techniques to the teachers at the college. The school is a not for profit charity which offers free and reduced priced lessons in English, business startup and graphic design to the Balinese public. We're hoping to work with the college's tutors to help set up a course in Flash animation at the end of this year.

Work begins on the Funginears! 18th December 2007

Mark and I have been very lucky to have been invited to Vancouver, Canada for the last six weeks to work at Dream Berry Studios (creators of the illuminated project). Over the last six weeks, we've been working on a new production called "The Funginears". The project is using live action puppetry with composited 2d and CG backgrounds. The characters will be used in the Funginears live stage show which is tours North America in the summer months and will then be turned into a web based video show.

The project has involved Mark and I designing a number of wacky characters which, as I write this, are being lovingly made at Furry Puppet Studios in New York.

We've also been creating 2d a range of backgrounds for the puppets to be composited onto.

We've had a really great time working with the crew at Dream Berry and look forward to working with them again next year!

Welcome to Sun and Moon Studios!

We are Dylan Shipley, Louis Jones, Mark Lee and Ryan Tottle, with Gareth Phillips adding his technical multimedia expertise. We are a group of freelance artists who have been working in the games, animation and visual effects industry for between six and nine years. We have joined forces and formed Sun and Moon Studios to promote each other's artwork and be able to work on larger productions in collaboration.
